Passenger vehicle wholesales in India fell 13.27% year-on-year (YoY) in December 2021, auto industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said on Friday.
Passenger vehicle sales last month stood at 2,19,421 units, as compared to 2,52,998 units in the year-ago period.
As per the latest data by SIAM, two-wheeler sales in December 2021 were at 10,06,062 units compared with 11,27,917 vehicles in December 2020, a decline of 10.80% year-on-year.
Three-wheeler sales in December 2021 stood at 28,111 as aginast 22,476, rising 25.07% year-on-year.
Two-wheeler exports were flat, PV exports were down 3.86% YoY and three-wheeler exports rose 11.12% year-on-year last month.
Utility vehicles (UV) sales in December 2021 at 97,137 units versus 94,787 vehicles in December 2020, up 2.47% YoY. UV sales for 9MFY22 were at 1,036,006 vehicles, up 53% year-on-year.
During October-December 2021 period, passenger vehicle sales fell 15.23% to 7,61,124 units versus 8,97,908 units in corresponding period a year ago.
Two-wheeler sales declined 25% to 35,98,299 units as against 47,82,110 units YoY. Total commercial vehicle sales were at 1,94,712 units as against 1,93,034 units YoY. Three-wheeler sales stood at 82,356 units vs 73,231 units YoY.
The Nifty Auto index fell 0.33% at 11,647.05. The index has risen 1.80% in two sessions.
Bharat Forge (up 1.95%), Bosch (up 0.89%), Exide Industries (up 0.81%), Balkrishna Industries (up 0.61%), Ashok Leyland (up 0.18%), Maruti Suzuki India (up 0.15%) and TVS Motor Company (up 0.01%) advanced.
MRF (down 0.04%), Tata Motors (down 0.19%), Amara Raja Batteries (down 0.38%), Tube Investments of India (down 0.56%), Bajaj Auto (down 0.67%), Eicher Motors (down 0.82%), Hero MotoCorp (down 1.07%) and M&M (down 1.64%) declined.

Often trades done in the customer’s accounts are far from the best interest of the customers. Holdings of customers are often sold and with the funds, trades are then placed in illiquid securities at unrealistic prices.
At times, the holdings of customers are sold at prices detrimental to the customer. The so-called “portfolio manager” assures profits, which naturally does not materialize. Customers are deceived into providing access to their trading accounts, thereby allowing such fraudsters access to funds and securities available to execute trades, injurious to the customer’s interest.
