ONGC slips after weak Q1 earnings

The oil and gas major's consolidated net profit fell 19.39% to Rs 6,693.61 crore on 0.77% decline in net sales to Rs 109,514.82 crore in Q1 June 2019 over Q1 June 2018.

On a standalone basis, ONGC's net profit fell 3.9% to Rs 5,904.25 crore on 2.4% decline in net sales to Rs 26,554.74 crore in Q1 June 2019 over Q1 June 2018.

The crude oil price realization fell 7.3% to $66.30 per barrel in Q1 June 2019 over Q1 June 2018. The crude oil price realization (joint venture) fell 1.8% to $66.78 per barrel in Q1 June 2019 over Q1 June 2018. The gas price on gross calorific value (GCV) basis rose 20.6% to $3.69 per mmbtu.

In rupee terms, the crude oil price realization fell 3.8% to Rs 4,612 per barrel in Q1 June 2019 over Q1 June 2018. The crude oil price realization (joint venture) rose 2% to Rs 4,645 per barrel in Q1 June 2019 over Q1 June 2018.

The total crude oil production fell 5.6% to 5.869 MMT during the quarter. The total gas production rose 3.7% to 6.42 BCM during the quarter. The company has recorded 5.8% increase in Value Added Products (VAP) to 917 KT.

ONGC made 4 discoveries during the quarter, one of which is a gas discovery in Sundalbari-Agartala Dome PML,West Tripura.

On the BSE, 12121 shares were traded in the counter so far compared with average daily volumes of 2.74 lakh shares in the past two weeks. The stock hit a high of Rs 129.2 and a low of Rs 127.75 so far during the day.

The stock hit a 52-week high of Rs 185 on 24 Sep 2018. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 125.7 on 13 Aug 2019.

The stock had underperformed the market over the past one month, down 14.89% compared with 4.98% fall in the Sensex. The scrip underperformed the market in past one quarter, down 21.82% as against Sensex's 0.36% fall. The scrip had also underperformed the market in past one year, down 22.78% as against Sensex's 1.82% fall.

ONGC is the largest crude oil and natural gas company in India, contributing around 70% to Indian domestic production. The Government of India holds 64.25% stake in ONGC.
